If a child misbehaves and isn’t corrected he or she will repeat that behaviour. All good parents know this.
If a group of politicians exert their power in the form of political overreach and are not held accountable they will do it again. All thinking citizens know this.
Sadly, not all citizens are thinking citizens capable of critical thought. In a previous article (about the possibility that mandatory vaccinations may yet again be imposed on us,) such a person raised some ad hominem objections to my arguments.
What this person is saying is that in the last federal election the party that was voted in used mandatory vaccinations as a party platform in the election and that’s an ‘old old story.’ I shouldn’t bring it up because it might scare people. I’m a ‘bad lay pastor’ for ‘needlessly stirring people up.’ Was he trying to ‘shame me’ into silence?
The forced vaccination party was voted in and the rest is history. Mandatory vaccination didn’t stop the spread. Mandatory vaccination didn’t stop the virus from mutating to even more transmissible forms. Mandatory vaccinations added the risk of side effects on to citizens and far too many people suffered because of it. People are still suffering. Excess deaths are high in highly vaccinated countries.
Kevin Bardosh, a a medical anthropologist sums up Canada’s failed mandatory vaccine mandates succinctly:
Like many Western political leaders, Trudeau and others in Canada (including BC Provincial Health Officer, Bonnie Henry) had originally dismissed the idea of making COVID-19 vaccine compulsory; in a May 2021 interview, Trudeau stated that, “We’re not a country that makes vaccination mandatory” (Hopper 2022).
But decision-makers in North America were faced with an emotive public, driven to maximize mitigation measures and ignore their wider societal consequences. Earlier slogans helped set the stage: “everyone is at equal risk,” “no one is safe until everyone is safe,” and “no death from COVID is acceptable.” By September 2021, and despite the available evidence, media and public framings re-enforced the idea that vaccination was the magic bullet that would “end the pandemic.” It was wishful thinking.
This is not to say that mandates did not increase vaccine coverage. Threaten someone’s career, ability to pay their mortgage, or enrol in school, or deny them access to a normal social life, and many will comply. How many COVID hospitalizations and deaths this averted is unclear.

As the outgoing Ethics Commissioner Mario Dion said;
“If Trudeau is not going to hold himself accountable, and the party is not going to hold him accountable, well, he kind of has to not hold them accountable in return. It’s kind of a quid pro quo with his own party members,” he said. “Trudeau’s caucus failed the system.”

The ballot box is the last stop for accountability in a democracy. If that fails we should be scared for ourselves and our children!
God help us all!
